These trips of a lifetime, and a lot more, are just some of the auction items that could be yours for the taking at the inaugural B2B Invitational, benefitting ‘Battlefields to Ballfields’, the nationwide initiative recently founded by FOX Sports rules analyst Mike Pereira.
The B2B Invitational is a fun-filled 18 holes of championship golf at the famed Del Paso Country Club in Sacramento, CA. Del Paso was the site of the 2015 United States Senior Open Championship, and the world’s finest senior golfers marveled at both the competitiveness and fairness of the 6,702-yard layout.
The tournament date is June 19, 2017, with registration beginning at 10:30 am and a shotgun start at 12 noon.
Registration is $325 per individual golfer and $1,200 per foursome. 18 holes of golf, cart, lunch, dinner and on-course beverages are included. Dinner and a live auction follow the golf and all proceeds will benefit U.S. armed forces veterans.
“What we are trying to do,” Pereira says, “is to make this tournament a unique event, with items up for bid that cannot be found anyplace else. At the same time, the mission of ‘Battlefields to Ballfields’ is to assist veterans, men and women accustomed to being on a mission-focused team, return to civilian life by giving them a new team to be part of on the field.”
Pereira himself has been involved in football officiating since 1971. He spent 14 years as an NCAA Division I football official and joined the NFL as a side judge in 1996. After two years on the field, he was elevated to NFL Supervisor of Officials. In 2001, he became Director of Officiating, and in 2004 was promoted to Vice President of NFL Officiating.
Since his retirement from the NFL following the 2009 season, Pereira turned to a new career, one that still keeps him involved in officiating. He is currently the FOX Sports rules analyst on FOX’s NFL and college football telecasts, providing his rules insights into plays and calls that warrant expert rules explanation and interpretation.
